Aim(s): To help dental professionals improve the standard of care provided and increase their confidence in dealing with the acutely ill adult patient by learning an accessible patient assessment and management system. Furthermore, to address what medical drugs are required, how these drugs are prepared and administered, what dose and route of administration should be used and finally, contraindications where indicated. Questions will be answered through workshop and simulation-based education using a “hands on” interactive approach.
Objectives: At the end of this session delegates should be able to: Demonstrate, recognise, assess and treat the “unwell” patient using a structured A, B, C, D, E approach Demonstrate preparation and delivery of emergency oxygen Recognise and manage medical emergencies in the Dental Practice following guidance from the British National Formulary “Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice” Demonstrate indications/contraindications, preparation, administration and delivery of emergency drugs Demonstrate Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Adult & Paediatric with COVID-19 modifications, following Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines 2021, adapted from the ERC guidelines 2021 and as recommended by (ILCOR) International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation Safely use an AED Demonstrate awareness of legal, ethical and professional duty of care
Learning Content: This training session is intended to create an understanding of recognising an unwell patient, managing medical emergencies in the Dental Practice, the administration and delivery of emergency drugs, how to correctly carryout CPR and the safe use of AED.
