What? BIMO Preclinical Education Series: Neuroanatomy, Stroke, and Intracranial Hemorrhage
When? Saturday 22nd FEB 2025, at 6 PM
Where? MedAll
This session, delivered by 4th-year medical student Suyash Poshakwale as part of BIMO's preclinical case-based teaching series, aims to bridge the gap between neuroanatomy and clinical practice. The talk begins with an overview of stroke classification and pathophysiology, including ischemic and hemorrhagic subtypes, and their differentiation from aneurysms. It delves into the vascular territories of the brain, emphasizing the Circle of Willis and its relevance to stroke syndromes such as ACA, MCA, PCA, and brainstem strokes. Using clinically oriented cases, participants will explore the neurological presentations of various stroke syndromes, correlating symptoms with affected anatomical pathways (e.g., corticospinal, spinothalamic, and dorsal column tracts) and imaging findings.
The session also includes a detailed exploration of intracranial hemorrhages (epidural, subdural, subarachnoid, and intracerebral), highlighting their pathophysiology, causes, characteristic imaging findings, and clinical implications. Through practice cases and interactive discussions, participants will refine their diagnostic reasoning and enhance their understanding of neurovascular anatomy, enabling them to better connect preclinical knowledge with clinical applications.
