Speaker: Dr Fadi Al-Zubaidi, Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK.

Summary

This interactive teaching session will provide medical students medical professionals with the information and practical skills needed to effectively manage arrhythmias in cardiac surgery and provide the basic knowledge on cardiac pacing following cardiac surgery. Participants will gain an improved understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias and will be able to practice pacing techniques.

Learning objectives

1. Identify common arrhythmias that may arise post operatively after cardiac surgery. 2. Describe the use of pacing devices to prevent or manage arrhythmia after cardiac surgery. 3. Discuss the techniques and strategies used to evaluate a patient's cardiac rhythm. 4. Explain the indications for implanting a temporary or permanent pacemaker in a post-operative cardiac patient.
