Description

As a new doctor to the NHS, lots of things will be unfamiliar! Our aim will be to talk through the process of clerking a new patient and to build confidence in assessing patients and making the right decisions for them. We will use real-life cases to better understand the role of a foundation doctor in the acute assessment unit.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the process of medical clerking and learn the skills needed to complete a thorough and accurate patient assessment
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the types of situations a doctor may encounter during a clerking process and the relevant skills they need to apply
  3. Describe the different roles competently that a doctor plays in the acute assessment process and their responsibilities for each role
  4. Practice applying accurate decision-making skills when encountering unfamiliar patient cases
  5. Identify strategies to hone clinical assessment skills and correct decision-making.
