Description

We look forward to welcoming AHPs and those staff working closely with major trauma patients across the North Yorkshire and Humberside Major Trauma Network, in what is set to be an informative day. Exploring best practice evidence and therapy requirements in the major trauma patient, we aim to deliver presentations that will increase awareness and ultimately, improve patient experience and outcomes.

Topics to be covered include:

Major trauma – where it all started

NICE guidelines on Trauma Rehabilitation

Chest trauma

Silver Trauma (Bone density/fragility), Slow Speed/Low impact Traumas (falls)

Spinal fracture management- braces and collars

Psychological effect of Major trauma

Management of PTA/head injury on the Acute ward

Traumatic amputation management

FEES (fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) and it's use managing Major Trauma patients with Dysphagia

Learning objectives

  1. To understand the genesis and historical background of major trauma care and familiarize oneself with the NICE guidelines on Trauma Rehabilitation.
  2. To develop deep insights into the management of chest trauma, considering the various potential complications and effective medical interventions.
  3. To analyze and comprehensively understand the concept of Silver Trauma and the management of Slow Speed/Low Impact traumas, focusing on fall prevention strategies and bone health in older adults.
  4. To gain expertise in spinal fracture management, by understanding the role and application of braces, collars, and other modern immobilization tools.
  5. To comprehend the psychological impact of major trauma
  6. Familiarize oneself with strategies to manage Post-Traumatic Amnesia (PTA) and head injury on the acute ward
  7. To develop an understanding of traumatic amputation management and
  8. Using FEEs in the treatment of major trauma patients with dysphagia
