"A Night on Call" is a two part series created by Dr Tom Grainger, designed to introduce you to the style of thinking that you will need to develop during your on-call shifts in both medicine and surgery. Unlike teaching focused on exams, this series aims to replicate the real world, in which there are multiple safe approaches to patients. In this session, the audience are in complete control of how the night pans out. We will cover prioritisation, interpreting investigations, appropriate escalation, forming management plans and safe prescribing, all in a manner more akin to bleep simulation than to a lecture.
In session 1, you will be faced with a jobs list to prioritise as you wish. Much like the real world, uncomfortable jobs don't go away. Instead, they follow you through to session 2, which is dynamic and will play out differently depending on how you prioritise your first night.
