The inside out surgical anatomy of the oropharynx, the expected surgical margins, and TORS in the context of the Carcinoma of Unknown Primary have been covered in the last 3 webinars in this Trans-oral Robotic Surgery of the Head and Neck webinar series.
Before embarking on trans-oral robotic surgery, it is imperative for the TORS surgeon to have a conversation with his/her H&N Radiology colleague and perform a thorough review of the pre-operative scans.
In this 1 hour webinar, we will cover:
- normal conventional imaging of the oropharynx
- imaging in the context of an unknown primary
- some of the subtle radiological appearance we do not want to miss which can change what we think is an early oropharyngeal cancer to a T3/4 making an adequate surgical margin difficult with TORS technique
- the radiological contraindication (or relative contraindication) to TORS
- post-TORS radiological appearance and how not to miss a recurrence
Aims
To become familiar in assessing a CT and an MRI scan before and after Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery of the Oropharynx.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
- Learn how to read a CT/MRI scans of the oropharynx
- Be familiar with the radiological difference between a T2 and a T3 oropharyngeal cancer
- Be aware of the radiological contraindication to TORS
- Be familiar with post-TORS radiological appearance
