Hi Everyone,
I hope you're doing well. I know you're likely in the midst of preparing for your MRCP Part 1 exam, so I'll keep this brief but informative. Here are my experiences and recommendations for the MRCP Part 1 exam.
Booking the Exam: First and foremost, book your exam as soon as possible. The psychological commitment of having a set date can significantly boost your motivation and focus. Once you have a deadline, your study efforts will become more structured and productive.
Study Resources: For my preparation, I primarily used PassMedicine. The community feature, where you can discuss questions and answers with other exam takers, was extremely helpful. I also did a few mock papers from Pastest. While neither resource perfectly mirrored the actual exam questions, I believe either one would be sufficient on its own. Additionally, I found the Qbank at MedAll to be excellent.
Study Routine: Since I was working during my preparation period, I couldn't commit a lot of time each day. I aimed to do about 50 questions per session, which was typically all I could manage in a day. Discussing the questions with a study partner over Discord was particularly beneficial. I'm considering creating a MedAll Discord community, which might be helpful for all of you. Let me know if you're interested.
Official MRCP Mock Exam: Make sure to complete the official MRCP mock exam available on their website. It provides a realistic feel of the actual exam and, for me, accurately reflected my final score.
Exam Day: I took the exam from home. Ensure your network connection is reliable and complete the IT checks provided well in advance. A proctor will monitor the exam, and they're quite helpful. You get one break during the exam, so plan it wisely, especially if you're drinking coffee, as it acts as a diuretic.
Time Management: The exam time was sufficient; I finished both papers with an hour to spare. You can use this extra time to review your answers or end the exam early if you're confident.
Results: Expect to receive your results via email or on the MyMRCP portal about a month after the exam.
Thank you for reading. I hope you found this helpful. If you need any further assistance, feel free to leave a comment, and I'll be happy to help.
Best of luck with your studies and the exam!
Did you take any toilet break and does it implicate your results negatively?
