The Department of Paediatric Surgery based at the Frere and Cecilia Makiwane Hospitals (CMH) in East London, South Africa, is a regional Paediatric Surgery service that caters to the surgical needs of children under 12 years of age, from the central one-third of the Eastern Cape Province. It is the fourth-largest Paediatric Surgery Unit in South Africa. The department is affiliated with Walter Sisulu University for the training of undergraduate and post-graduate students. Currently, there are four full-time Consultants (Specialists), four registrars and six junior doctors- all training to become Paediatric Surgeons. The Eyabantwana for the Children Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the infrastructure, equipment and training needs of the department (staff).
