Afternoon everyone. So my name is I'm one of the um orthopedic consultant at the Royal London and I treat a lot of the open facts of a lot of the lower limb trauma and the reconstruction work. So, um I was asked today to talk a bit about open fractures and I know you guys have had a talk from a plastic surgeon at Adam Brooks about the soft tissue aspect of things. So I'll try and link it with the bony side. They're very closely linked as you've probably understood by now. So if you get to the next page, yeah. Uh Nick, are you unable to nick the lights moving at all? I can't, I can't hear you. Uh you on me at the moment. You neck. Yeah. Yeah. It's uh it's moving on for me. Just let me um let me try it again. Oh OK. Amazing. OK. So, um these are, I think the main points that I think I'm gonna go through in this talk, I'm gonna try and stress the importance of all of these. So, um we're getting better at treating open fractures both from a plastics and orthopedic perspective and that means that outcomes are slowly improving. Um historically, um open fractures were known for their high complication rates. That's now um also the complication rates reducing. But we still have to accept that these do carry um a higher risk of infection non union, er, compared to your standard fracture. Um There are a few things that we can do as part of the patient's journey to try and make things uh make their outcome as as good as possible. Um And we'll go through some of those important things. Um We know that working closely with plastic surgeons is crucial. Um And um sometimes, you know, things don't go as planned and you need to have a backup plan or a plan B, plan C when dealing with these types of injuries. And I think A as I'll allude to later, um You should always be aware that amputation is an option. Uh Next slide.
