Today is a good day for the Association of Surgeons of Uganda. It's a good day for the Ministry of Health and it's a good day for our country. But the whole idea is for us to showcase what we do in our theaters, what we do in our hospitals, in our intensive care units in Uganda. And we put it to the public so they can see for themselves. Uganda can now proudly boast of performing transplant surgery, separation of conjoined twins, complex, open heart procedures, laparoscopic abdominal surgeries. I would really want to juxtapose this same 10 the way it is to the grounds of parliament sometime this year or next financial year so that our fellow colleagues are able to walk through and see what Ugandan doctors are able to do and what they are doing. Currently, the small beginnings that we are seeing the advancements that have started, the opportunities that have opened will continue to grow. We shall nurture those beginnings with you. Government must find money to train specialties if you want to see these services being performed, if we had our surgeons populate the peripheral hospitals, especially the senior ones that would be more cost effective than having 90% of them. In Molabo. We must have good teachers, dedicated and mentors as the seniors go away and we see our exit door. We become mentors and supervisors to the young ones. We need to go beyond the perspective of only focusing on clinical care and open up to other components. It will enable reorient the surgeons in terms of the way they see things, the way they look at health in a more broader perspective. Let the people know what you are doing. Let's make documentaries. When will those people in Kise know that you can do those surgeries even amongst ourselves here in the various hospitals? People don't know what you do because most of the specialties are concentrated in Kampala. The regions don't know. I know it is expensive but we are here to support you to spread the good news. This landscape exhibition is one of the ways of raising public awareness about the availability of surgical services in the country. It will help to reduce forex loss of dollars to other countries. Government will continue to provide a conducive environment for training and retaining specialists.
