Right. I think we're live. Hi. If for some reason I can't make my notes. Hi guys. Can you hear us? Where is? Ok. You can see the chart. Let's look. Yes, that's nice. Can you see my screen? I can't see it. Mm. See just trying to shower. How about now? No. Ok. Wait let me leave and join again. Give that a second. Sorry about disguise. Ok. Hopefully any lump. No, it usually doesn't happen. She has me to share it. Yeah, go ahead. Keep seeing like the technical error has occurred. Uh Let's see now a window. Oh, give me a second. This is hello back. Ok. Ok. So if I can start now but my settings are letting me so I don't know why it's not. Mm I wanna work today. Does not want to. Mm because I have screens and open for chrome. Hm. Doesn't wanna keep just taking it to settings. Apologies. I have no idea what is happening guys today. Ok. Yeah, we will just be a few minutes while we sort this out. Do you guys wanna put in the chart? What you got up to today? Whether you want a placement or had some lectures. How was your day? Mm. Can you see this? I can't see anything. I don't know if anyone else can. That's nice to hear. Amy. That's a car. It's three S les flipping. I wish I was that efficient. What can I do? What can I do? And five of the 515 clocking? Wow. Where was this? Where did you get so much done? Which department was this? And it was so nice to sign you off for just had lectures today. I have a GP placement tomorrow though. Oh, that's so fun. What were the lectures on? And what year are you in? I have to be first or second year, doesn't it? I remember Thursday used to be online Zoom Day for us. I think Sean's from Bristol. Actually we've got, 00, Princess of Wales. They are lovely over there. Ok. I think what I'll do is maybe I'll close Chrome and try again. Ok. And hopefully it'll work so I'll be like two minutes. Ok. No worries. Do you want me to try doing it at the same time? So if it doesn't work for you, it might work for me or do you want these guys? Um, you know, you just, you want, do you do it? Apologies about this. But yeah, Princess Wales are lovely. Have they sorted out this sort of concrete rack problem? Is that all? All right, are functioning? Mm. To anyone new that has joined we're just having some issues. Sharing the powerpoint. Sorry about that. Give us a few minutes and this should be up. Oh, that's an interesting mix of, sort of lectures today. Gi physiology and racism and healthcare. Which one did you prefer as the question? What, what was the most interesting thing in either of those lectures? Mhm. Yeah. Ok. Hm. It really doesn't want to. Is it not, why, why don't you try, why don't you try to leave for a second? Give me uh less probably gi physiology. Uh is that, is that in response to Ash asking which ones you liked? I see. Mm OK. So sorry guys, for anyone who's joined us, we're just trying to sort out sharing uh sharing the powerpoint. Um So we will try and try and get started as soon as possible. Thank you. So, and that for that. See. Oh yes, that, yeah, give me a second just to get my script up on my Yeah. OK. And we've got a couple more people as well who joined. So that's great. OK. Um Well, so should we get started? Yeah, we can get started. So welcome to today's talk today guys. It's an introduction to basic research methods. And I'm Asher and you've probably already seen Praina on the teaching she's been doing over the last sort of couple of weeks. But yeah, we're just gonna give you a basic rundown of basic research methods, what they're applied for the disadvantages and benefits and sort of a flavoring of the different types and where they stand in terms of what's better than others. Mhm. Um So just a brief outline of what we will cover this evening, we will start by discussing what research is and why it's important to us as future clinicians. Then we'll introduce key concepts before delving into the different study designs. Uh We'll also cover the hierarchy of evidence and briefly talk about critical appraisal um before finishing with a quick quiz, um hopefully, we'll have time to really talk about the different questions in the quiz and you get to practice what you've learned this session. Um As always, the slides will be sent out to you afterwards uh upon completion of the feedback form and it will include everything we talk about in the notes. Um So there's no need for you to take notes as well. Uh And just to warn you, this will be a pretty hefty session. Um So if at any point, you have any questions or you would like us to repeat anything, just put a message in the chart and we'll do our best to explain. Um So just for those joining us for the first time, because I do recognize a coup. Well, II don't recognize a couple of the names here. Um The Women in Surgery Society. Um It's a college of society that aims to encourage and educate female medical students about a career in surgery, but these sessions are for any for everyone. Um And I just wanted to say that we're currently, elections are currently running for the 2025 26 committee. Uh, and we would encourage anyone from Cardiff who is interested, interested to nominate themselves. It would be great to see some new faces on the committee. And as we've mentioned in previous sessions, it's uh this is an excellent way to demonstrate your interest in surgery and it can lead to teaching opportunities and research opportunities that will benefit your portfolio. So, yeah, come join us. Um What?
