Please be prepared to work in muddy, rough, uneven and potentially wet conditions We look forward to seeing you at Boswinger and having a fantastic couple of days in Sunny Kernow Lucy and Endeavour Medical TeamCourse description This two-day course designed for you to gain knowledge and skills in remote and rural medicine as well as improving confidence and competence in leadership and team working that can be directly related to NHS practice. We will use outdoor working environments and high-fidelity scenarios to explore the human factors that contribute to scenario outcome. Using safe spaces, we will approach mental health and resilience within healthcare, and look at the global health challenges facing our own health care systems and those of LMICs. The course will form a mixture of workshops, open discussion and debate and lecture format. Two thirds of the day will take place outdoors capitalising on an outdoor learning environment. The workshops will be split into groups and rotate during the day. Joining instructions th Please arrive promptly on 18 We are staying in Boswinger YHA, location above. There is limited parking so please car share where possible. Dormitories vary from 2-6 people. Some rooms have one double bed, so if you are a couple or happy to share please let us know. The dress code is informal, please see the kit list below. Meals and accommodation are included. Please bring money for tea and cake and a reusable mug. Alcohol is not included. Optional Water Sports Weather pending, there may be an optional guided kayak trip which will cost £20 per person for two hours. We will email the week before to confirm if this is going ahead. If you would like to join please bring a wetsuit and booties if you have them, change of clothes and shorts and rash vest and waterproof jacket to wear.KIT LIST The majority of the course will take place outdoors unless the weather is against us. Workshop 2: Remote Trauma:Spinal injuries and packaging casualties Intended Learning Outcomes: - Understand the practical application of nexus rules - Explore methods of moving and packaging patients with spinal injuries - Utilise forms of leadership and teamworking when evacuating casualties over difficult terrain - Appreciate the importance of regular observations, documentation and communication. F2 HEE Remote medicine and leadership May 2022 v1.2Workshop 3 Polar Medicine: Hypothermia and cold-water immersion Intended Learning Outcomes: - Understand the 1:10:1 rule of hypothermia - Review signs and symptoms of hypothermia and pathophysiology of cold injury. - Experience how quickly a team member can get cold. - Explore methods of rewarming working as a team. - Work within teams to move cold casualties safely. - Discuss team dynamics and leadership styles. Workshop 4 Global health: Planetary health challenges and the SDGs Intended Learning Outcomes: - Explore concepts of how the pandemic has affected health professionals in UK and LMICs? - Consider the strengths and weaknesses of our health system compared to those in LMICs. - Discuss changes we can make on a personal and system level to achieve the SDGs. - Consider the global health challenges that we see in our daily practice. - How climate will affect human health during our working careers.
