Pathway to Switzerland from MU PlevenMEBEKO Registration MEBEKO (similar to GMC) is the swiss medical body in charge of registering all doctors (and other medical professionals) in Switzerland. FMH or Fédération des médecins suisses (similar to BMA and royal colleges) is a professional organization, it defends the interests of doctors and regulates and monitors the postgraduate training of doctors. Diploma Recognition: (Cost: 800 CHF) 1. A European Directive 2005/36/EC document. 2. Certified copy of passport or identity card (not residence permit) 3. Curriculum vitae signed 4. Certified copy of the diploma(s) in the original language 5. Original or certified copy of the official translation of the diploma(s), if the diploma was not written in French, German, Italian or English. 6. Proof that speak one of the swiss languages to level B2 (German, French or Italian)(Cost 50 CHF per language). 7. Translated Birth certificate (not needed for MEBEKO but should do all the documents at the same time) Most EU diplomas are recognised and no exam is required. Non-EU/EEA diplomas often require this extra step. Once you get MEBEKO RECOGNITION you must send this along with your CV and motivation letter for jobs. Once you are in Switzerland, you must register in your canton and obtain a residency permit (B permit is usually 5 years and given when you present your job contract of “duree indeterminee” and translated birth certificate). It takes around 3 months to receive the certificate. The European Directive Document Need to send a notarized copy of the diploma and the appendix to the diploma to the ministry of health. Also need a document stating that you have not worked in Bulgaria as a doctor and Bulgarian criminal record check. Ministry of Health Republic of Bulgaria (government.bg)An example of my EU directive document. (See Drive File for application document or contact the bulgarian ministry of health directly).Language Requirements You only need to speak one of the main Swiss languages. But the main two are german and french. Only Italian usually is not enough. Interviews. What I (personally) wish I had known Practice medical french. Be good at clinical examinations and taking a history. Learn how to write a good medical report. = These things take time and experience to learn. -> Spend a minimum of a year in the UK/or country of origin. Go into emergency medicine, internal medicine or geriatrics/rehabilitation medicine instead of psychiatry first if you want to be an internist or surgeon. If you want to be a psychiatrist. Come to switzerland ! If you want to be a family doctor - The UK or France have a more comprehensive/complete training in my opinion. Learn german….LEARN GERMAN !!!!! You are not a full doctor until after a dissertation. Officially we are Dr med. Univ and we want to be Dr med. :-) I do not understand this fully but we need to do a dissertation and final exam before we are fully qualified. Why choose Switzerland ? Money :-)..because this country is too damn expensive and everything is insured, so we kind of need the money… Quality of life (security, nature) Flexible training Many foreign doctors (Many graduates from romania, many eastern european doctors and a lot of portuguese, greek, belgian, french and german doctors). Research opportunities- Bern, Zurich, Basel, HUG Geneva and CHUV Lausanne.
