As a clinician taking a research role/fellowship, are you mainly involved in clinical research, or do you also get involved in lab-based biomedical research?

I am heading into final year this summer and have split my elective time up. For half of the elective I will be doing 3 weeks of cardiothoracic surgery in Malta. As a UK student going to a different country it means I will only have an observational role on this elective. What advice would you give to ensure I get the most out of this experience?

Would you say that as a congenital surgeons, your typical week is more harder/longer/stressful or less? How is your week divided and what percentage is spent on research?

Does applying to less than full time training give you less chance of receiving a training number? Or does it give you less credibility within the department you work in?

Hi, Prof. Lotto and Jones, Thank you very much for the interesting talk. For my current medical programme, I'm doing 2 years preclinical and 4 years of MD. As a 2nd year preclinical student, should I just email professors/doctors in my university and nearby trusts if I want to get started in research?

Apart from Bristol, is there any other places where medical students can intercalate into a MSc/MRes and carry out a research project related to CT surgery?

I believe there is a Msc Programme with the Uni of Birmingham, it is an anatomy course however, you can request to be attached to the cardiac surgery team
